He Ain't Heavy, He's Our Brother
November 16, 2007 | 2 Comments
I think a huge shout-out to Tom Parkison, a.k.a. Brothers of the Fics, is long overdue. Not only has he been scrambling to kill the occasional bug that rears its ugly head on this site with his usual swift and terrible vengeance, but he's also currently undertaking the gargantuan task of completely overhauling Evafics.org at the same time. I have no idea how the man finds the time to do anything else in his life (work, play, eat, sleep, breathe, etc.), but I and I'm sure everybody else who hangs out at DS and EFO appreciate the amazing work he's doing. The sites look great, and it seems like every day there's some new little tweak that makes them just a little bit better.
Now, if he can just get rid of all those weird quotation marks that are infesting "Ouch" (they used to be question marks), all would be right with the world...
Just kidding, Bro. Thanks a million for the incredible job you do.

Good News and Bad News
November 13, 2007 | No Comments Posted
The good news - after a long struggle with an upload issue, "Ouch" is finally here on Darkscribes. And there was much rejoicing - at least from me, anyway.
The bad news - there seems to be a new text bug that changes dashes (which I use a lot) into question marks. Tom's on it, so hopefully it will be cleared up soon. In the meantime, though, if you read it and think everybody in the story seems unusually, erm, inquisitive, try to ignore it for now.

Lucky Thirteen
November 11, 2007 | No Comments Posted
This is my thirteenth entry. I've had several blogs in the past, and I don't think I've ever managed more than four or five entries on any one of them, so in that respect I consider this one an unqualified success. I'll try to keep the streak going...
If my blog is a success, then my experiment with "Ouch" has been a miserable failure so far. Since I uploaded it to my own personal page on FFN, it's gotten a grand total of... one review (thanks, Rose1948!). I suspect that I may have confused people wth the preface - I had asked people to leave any reviews for the story on the Second Studio 402 Team's site, rather than my own, but either this was too confusing for some readers (maybe a link to Studio 402's page would have helped), or they just couldn't be bothered to go through the extra hassle and decided not to review at all. It's gotten a fair number of hits so far, so perhaps communication breakdown is to blame. I've since gone in and removed the preface, but I think the damage has been done. Sometimes, I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to self-promotion...
Or maybe... just maybe... the story actually just sucks.
Hey, it's entirely possible.
I don't mind hearing about how bad my stuff sucks though (can't fix it if I don't know what's broken), so if anybody actually read this thing and thinks it sucks, feel free to tell me why you thought so. It'll be here on DS shortly, so flame away to your heart's content.
Jamaica was awesome. Climbed Dunn's River Falls, bought a nifty straw hat, and drank enough Red Stripe to give even Misato Katsuragi a half-decent buzz (which is to say, a lot). My skin will start peeling off in a few days, but it was worth it...

An experiment
October 29, 2007 | 1 Comment
Well, I added "Ouch" to the Second Studio 402's page on FFN eight days ago, and so far, it's received a whopping four reviews. I'm kind of curious as to whether this is due to the fact that Studio 402 just doesn't have a very large readership (few alerts, etc.), if people just aren't checking the "Just In" page that much, or if the story just plain sucks, which is entirely possible. So I've decided to add it to my own page on FFN, and see what happens. After all, writing stories that nobody reads is kind of pointless, really, and I want to get it out into the community for feedback, or at the very least, for people to read and hopefully enjoy. I'd still like Studio 402 to get any reviews that do come in for it, though, so I'll add an additional A/N asking them to submit any feedback to their page, because I'd like the other authors in the group to get some much-deserved exposure as well. We'll see how that goes...

Finally...

"The Hurt/Comfort Aspect - Ouch" has been completed and uploaded to FFN. Please feel free to check it out here.
Since this is a Studio 402 project, I'm going to be withholding adding it to DS, EFO, etc. for the time being because I want the group to get the reviews, not myself personally. If you read it, and you like it (hell, if you don't like it), please leave any feedback on the FFN site. Probably in a month or two, I will put it up here and on the other EVA fiction sites.
What to do next? Godchild 10... Christmas story... WAFFathon... so much to do, so little time to procrastinate...
