Your aims may be correct, but you will become a dictator...not in the Roman sense which is what I think you mean, but in Small Central African republic sense. You will come to hate it even more...you will come to loath fanfiction, or DS or EFO...

It happened to me after that whole EvSoc debacle... started with high ideals, and ended up nearly heiling and marching its way across the fandom. Thank  God that thing died when it did. But still, nothing has been fun since.

Get out now before you destroy yourself and any hope you can have of having fun.

I mean, to me, their comments always came across as being from some high horse. Like, we know better than you, your fic is shit unless you follow our way.

Overdoing it is annoying as hell...

Mostly because it's the ones that tend to overdo it that cause the problem.

Personally, I'll only do it in certain circumstances, and even then only the occasional little tidbit needed, the sort of thing that either can't be translated, would be too much of a bugger to translate, or whatever.

It can help to ground the story in it's setting, if done right, but overdone comes across as pretensious.

It really only work if there's a character in the story with a limited understanding of Japanese, who might be able to pic out the few odd phrases from subtitled animé, or whatever...

Btw, there are honorifics in Eglish, just not to the depth of Japanese, haven't you ever been called sir, mister, or the like?
