What is this I don't even

July 24, 2009 | 1 Comment

So I'll admit that I was (somewhat naively) hoping that the release of the new EVA movies would breathe some life back into the fanfic community.

I was hoping that a lot of the old familiar faces would come back, brimming with excitement and new ideas for stories to talk over.

But I guess in the end stuff changes and people move on.

That's life, eh.

The question then becomes...what am I still doing here?

Rebuild 2.0

July 16, 2009 | 1 Comment

Wow...

Just........

Wow.

I don't know how I've managed not to fall into a huge depression, seeing two highly-anticipiated movies within a week of each other, and having both of them be disapointments of mythical proportions.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince didn't even come close to doing the book justice, which is a shame because it was a delicious carnivale of WAFF and drama and angst.

But considering how Rebuild 1.0 went--how amazing the new visuals were, how tight the editing was, how skillful the storytelling and character development were, how I can go on and on about it--I can't even begin to say how much more I was expecting from 2.0

I really hate to burst the bubble, but if you look at discussion anywhere happening on the internet, people are pretty much saying the same thing.

Asuka got watered down.

Rei got more moe~ (if that's even possible).

Mari is a batshit insane mary-sue bitch (but we all knew that)

Shinji got.....manly?

I'm seriously expecting the next two movies to turn out like Re-Take or something equally surprising.

The only thing I will concede was that 2.0 was visually pleasing, and some of the fight scene animations just fucking blew my mind.

Finally, something to show for all of it.

You might have noticed that I actually submitted something resembling a full-length story. (Oh please, that dinky little one-shot does not even come close to counting)

Part of me just did it for the heck of it, and if you've gone over and read the Author's Notes on it you might understand why.

Of course, I had a kind of selfish ulterior motive behind it. But hey, who doesn't?

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past couple years, you'll know that Rebuild of EVA 2.0 is dropping over in Japan in less than a week.

From the very moment I heard whisperings of some of its content, despite not knowing exactly how it would go, I was set on the warpath to release the new version of my story.

Why? Well, even if the always-regrettable "canon negation" happens with the new content, I can still have the pride of saying that I came up with the ideas before that area of the series was ever addressed.

Lame? Yeah...maybe.

So where have I been for the past, oh, I don't know, year?

School.

Yup.

I went into 100% academic-freak mode and decided I was going to get all A's both semesters so I could get accepted to my first-choice study abroad program.

Everything worked out well, so despite the fact that I had to take about 2 weeks of recovery hibernation when I got home, I now have a guaranteed ticket to study in Kyoto, Japan for my senior year.

(Which means I'll get to see Rebuild 2.0 in theaters. Neener neener, boo boo!)

*ahem*

But enough of that.

I beseech you to take a moment and give Written in the Sand a read, and leave me some feedback.

Cheers!

Not Dead Yet

Semester's finally over.

Kicked 10 different kinds of ass in terms of grades and all that, and now it's my time to relax and do whatever the shit I want until I find a job for the summer.

I have no clue why but I just haven't been in the writing mindset, despite my newfound freedom (and often boredom).

DS jumped into my mind for some random reason today, so I'll probably be pulling up the draft documents and taking another crack at Promises soon.

Sorry to string everyone along so much?

Negligence

I'm a baaaad author.

Haven't even logged in to the main site in so long (and wound up forgetting my password too, of all things).

School has been doing that thing it does where it takes over most of your life and you don't really think about much else, and as a result writing has fallen by the wayside.

I really would like to say I've made progress on Promises, but I haven't....

I should be back on the horse soon, hopefully.
