20k is a lot to read in one sitting. Unless it is very good, most readers won't sit through it. 10k is, IMO, about the right level.

That said, chapters are divided where you, the writer, feel they should be divided. If you feel like something should not be broken up, then you really shouldn't. Might have a few less readers, but I only say that as forewarning.

Several good to great writers have broken 20k. Eric Blair just did it for his The Last Test oneshot, and Verb@lKint did it at least once as well. If things stay lively and interesting, you won't have any problems.

You probably shouldn't decide now though. Write the thing, and then if you think it should be broken up, break it up. If not, then you don't have to.
