Site Outage

Sorry about the site outage that took place about two hours ago. I was experimenting on transitioning the site over to another database access library and it didn't go too well. Anyways, everything is reverted now and the site works as if nothing ever changed.

OpenID Support

The login system has been updated to take advantage of the free and Open Source authentication system known as OpenID. Remembering several different usernames and passwords are a thing of the past with OpenID.

With the current implementation you still have to create an account here but once the account is made here and your OpenID account has been connected to it, all you have to do is login with your OpenID and you are logged into your account here.

UPDATE
Multiple OpenIDs can be attached to a user here at Darkscribes by providing them with commas separating them in your user profile. Currently, MyOpenIDs and BlogSpot users can be used as OpenIDs here at Darkscribes.org. Yahoo profiles can't at the monent.

Javascript errors, OH MY!

Yeah, a bunch of ugly Javascript errors popped up with the TinyMCE HTML Editor that this site uses for many of the functions like posting comments and submitting stories.

As far as I know, it seemed to crop up after a recent release of FireFox. The error did not present itself to users of Internet Explorer.

As of right now, I have a fix in place. This means that many of those functions that use TinyMCE should be fixed, but if you still notice a problem... feel free to fill out the Bug Report here.

Re-Take: The Animation

Usually we use this spot for updating about the general site activity and updates. this time though there is a project that has come to my attention through Eric Blair I'd like to post up here.

A group of folk have decided to take fan-based work up a notch. Zeak Studios is producing an entire animation series based on the Re-take Evangelion dojinshi (sp). this is definatly something I hae never heard of in fan based art work of any kind and marks a nice little event in my opinion. Darkscribes.org and Evafics.org will have links posted to his site and hopfully he'll have his first video out by May 23.

We'll be supporting this project as best we can. They could use some voice actors, especially females. so if you want to aid these guys head over to his site and take a look. Also the associated youtube page is here.

We wish him good luck in his endevor.

Site Deleted

No, I'm not talking about this site or Evafics, I'm talking about Creative Expression.

Basically, due to inactivity and basic unpopularity of this site I've decided to take the site offline. The site was online for four months and nothing happened, no stories, no users, no content at all.

If you want to buy the domain name, I'm willing to sell it. I'm not asking for much, just enough to recoup of the cost of buying it which is about $20. My email address is on my author page, email me if you want the domain name. The domain name expires at the end of December, if you want it... contact me before then. If nobody buys it off me I'm just going to let it expire.

Initial Uploads

Remember, just filling out the join app isn't enough. You have to upload your stories before we bother approving the account. We don't want a ton of empty author accounts on the site.

First things first.

We have problems.

We are a community, and that means when something affects one person, it should affect us all and have us doing more than just looking at it with just a shoulder shrug and hope that by not talking it will simply go away. That has to stop.

So yes, there have been some moves, some changes and all that.

I'm a firm believer that if something is right, you don't fix it, but when something is utterly wrong, you don't break it down; you fix it. You don't run away and hope that things fix themselves because we all know that that doesn't happen, it just gets worse.

So here we are, and here I am.

First off, apologies to everyone for all that has happened recently, be it directly or indirectly linked, that something you need not see and need not have happened. The main concern here is to make Darkscribes and Evafics what it was before, but also to bring back something I have seen that has been slowly taken off from writing.

Fun. It's no longer fun, it's a chore; worst it's a job that doesn't pay but gives you headaches. We're fans, writing is a hobby, it should be fun. Lets put that back.

Second. I'm not going to overlord anyone, anywhere. I will simply take care of my piece of land and try to enforce some basic civility there. If it catches on the other areas, that's perfect. If not, you should be talking with the moderator there.

Because in the end, we exist because of us, we are a fan-made, fan-run, fan-based site. Without us, there is no site.

Regrettably, things have happened. Regrettably, something had to be done. More regrettably I had to do it.

This does not mean LD will be no more, LD is around, LD watches all and waits. Sometimes he frowns, sometimes he smiles, sometimes he licks his lips and that is most disturbing.

But the essence is this. I will go away, not "eventually" like a whispered promise of deliverance. In a fixed amount of time there should be changes implemented and once that is done I walk away from all of this unless I have a story to post. I really dislike politics, I hate having to be a figure of sorts.

After this, it seems we have both crossed out mutual Rubicon.

The dice is cast, luck has been called.

Now let's go forth and don't look back. Everything until this point is past and the past is prologue.

Time to keep on writing.

Join Application Problems

Some of you have been reporting that the email you received after submitting the Join Application contained the wrong URL, yes... this was the case.

But, this has been corrected and I have manually resent all of the past activation emails for those users who haven't completed the user activation process.

Again, sorry about the confusion but this has been fixed. I suspect that there will be an influx of new users.

Working on Site Functions

I'm in the process of working on many of the site functions responsible for maintaining content. Specifically I'm rebuilding them to use a lot less Javascript than it was using before.

If functions don't work or don't work as they should, please report them in a comment to this front page news article.
