Phoenix Blade Chronicles, Chapter 1: Introduction
(This story takes place in the kingdom of Ethera, under the rule of King Blaire and Queen Reina, the only and the most popular monarchs in the world at the moment. The only lands independent of them are the Sol and Luna Islands, collectively known as the Golden Isles. Gods and goddesses are a rather large part of life, the chief goddess being Corona, of purity. The story starts in Godrim, the capital of Ethera...)
A long-haired girl sat at a table. She had dark coal-black eyes and long blue hair held in a ponytail. As of right now, she stared intently at the document before her, knowing that her decision would be everlasting, and could shape her life forever more. Furthermore, she knew failure was not an option.
“This is NOT rocket science; just ORDER ALREADY!” the waiter cried impatiently. The blue-haired girl, Sapphire Lucille Creek lifted her head up from the menu and glared at the waiter who had cried out. The waiter’s name tag read Jodi.
“Well, Jodi, we seem to be on our period today, aren’t we? I’ll just order the special,” Sapphire said calmly, “so as to not ‘over-aggravate’ you.”
“And what of the quiet girl?” Jodi asked, malice dripping from her voice like honey.
The other long haired girl did not remove here face from the book she was reading. “A banana will do just fine, please,” she elegantly orated.
Jodi nodded, and then walked off in a huff, wondering aloud why she couldn’t have normal customers for once, who didn’t carry swords and didn't have to act odd and spend HOURS deciding what to order.
Sapphire gave the other girl a skeptical look. “Banana? Is that it?” she inquired.
“Well,” The other girl took the book down from her face and, giving Sapphire an impassive look, answered, “the other stuff was simply disgusting. Fried chicken with marinara sauce, deep-fried spaghetti, I mean, COME ON." Her ruby-red eyes shone as she said this, even in the dim lighting of the small restaurant. Her long, slightly curly white-blonde hair slightly covered the right side of her face. She looked rather angelic, sitting there studying Sapphire. One would be so moved to believe her that she was an angel, until, of course, they saw her sword.
The sword was completely and totally unnatural, even to the most traveled weapons-connoisseur. The hilt was a green-tint marble phoenix, raising its wings above, as if in command of the sky and fearless. Then, from the hilt, a ruby blade protruded, shining as bright as her eyes. The blade was two feet long and 3.5 inches wide. Ruby Veronica Cristallo, the owner of this blade, looked up at the lamp above their heads, then back at Sapphire, who was still eyeing her worriedly.
“Oh. Ohhhhh!” exclaimed Sapphire. “Miss Holier-than-all doesn’t want to destroy her goddess-given figure!” she concluded with a hint of jealous sarcasm. "Such a high-class diva."
"Of the highest class." Ruby glared, annoyed, for a minute, then stared down at her stomach and raised her eyebrows.
'It IS....enviable,' she thought, amazed at the fact that she never noticed.
Right then, Jodi returned with their orders. She placed the special on Sapphire’s side of the table (spicy noodles, curry chicken, and salad) and then traveled over to a basket on a counter where an assortment of fruits were contained and grabbed a banana from the basket. She thought for a second, then, for no reason and because Ruby had such an attitude (goddess figure, hah!) threw the banana straight at Ruby's head with killing intent.
Sapphire would later deeply regret this action and disapprove of it as “reckless.” But she wasn’t thinking now. She unsheathed her katana and threw it into the midair banana, sending the katana into the wall with the banana on it. She flipped over the table and Jodi over to the wall and landed on her sword. With acrobatic skill and poise, she flipped upside-down so that she was hanging from the sword by her feet, then flipped and pulled the sword out so that she was now standing on it. She turned to face Jodi and tackled her, so that Jodi was sprawled, on the ground, with a katana at her throat. None of the few dirty, old spectators didn't do a thing to call out the manager or stop the fight, they were much too interested by prospect of two young girls fighting. Perhaps, they thought, they would get to see something interesting.
“How DARE you try that!" Sapphire screamed in rage. She rose the katana up, and then brought it downward sharply. All of the dirty old men gasped with baited breath, wondering if they would witness a good old fashioned cat-fight, with lots of cloth loss.
